Located in the heart of the Ribeiro comarca, on the left bank of the river Miño in the province of Ourense.
Its main economic activity is the production of wine within the Ribeiro Designation of Origin, with 23 wineries. Another important driving force is the Nautical Club, the renowned sailing centre within Galicia. The Xunta approved the first General Municipal Development Plan (PGOM) of the municipality, which provides for the creation of business land to promote industrial and commercial activity in the area of Prado. The municipality is also collaborating with the regional government to create a pilot project consisting of an agricultural vineyard estate for land reclamation in O Ribeiro.
