The Regional Minister for Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, announced today that at the beginning of the year the first grants will be available for companies participating in the Strategic Initiative for Security, Defence and Aerospace, approved this year by the Xunta de Galicia.
Lorenzana spoke today at the 7th International Aerospace Congress, where she presented the main support instruments to be launched next year within the framework of this strategy, which will have a budget allocation of 14.8 million euros in the 2026 Budget.
She explained that the Galician Government intends to launch, with expenditure approval in advance so that it can be applied from the start of 2026, the call for supporting Galician companies to act as suppliers in the fields of defence and security, through obtaining specific certifications, system and product homologations, security authorisations and preparing project proposals to participate in national or European calls.
According to Lorenzana, the Xunta is also working with the expectation of launching in the first months of the year the tender that will define which companies and technology centres will work on joint investment programmes with the regional administration, after receiving a total of 78 proposals currently being assessed in various working meetings with the promoting companies. Once this process concludes this same month of October, she added, each industrial project will be examined in detail to understand its potential more specifically and define the support required for its establishment in Galicia.
Thirdly, in the first months of 2026, a grant scheme will be announced for investments in dual-use technologies, with higher scores awarded in the evaluation criteria to those projects located in the area surrounding the Rozas Industrial Park.
Regarding this site, Lorenzana pointed out that the Xunta intends to transform it into a large business park where companies and technology centres can settle and build a major high-tech hub of European reference. She recalled that, in addition to already hosting companies such as Avincis and Indra, there are still available spaces for new business establishments.
Along the same lines, she noted that the Rozas Industrial Park will become Spain’s first testing ground for the European Digital Sky, the location of the new space accelerator that the Xunta de Galicia will create, and it aspires to host the European Space Agency’s Business Incubation Centre (ESABIC).
Lorenzana concluded by reaffirming the Xunta’s commitment to making Galicia a pioneer in developing technologies for the security, defence and aerospace sectors. “Our greatest aspiration right now is for them to be manufactured and marketed in Galicia,” she stated.
