Nigrán (Pontevedra), 7 August 2025
The Minister of Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, reminded today that companies and centres can already participate in the public dialogue phase with the industry, which will remain open until 22 September to develop Galicia’s new Strategic Initiative in Security, Defence and Aerospace.
This strategic dialogue process, opened on 22 July, seeks “to learn about the projects that the Galician business fabric has in these areas and to gradually form the consortia that will begin to emerge towards the end of the year,” she said. The Galician Government’s intention is to publish the first call at the end of 2025 that will define which companies and technology centres will work jointly on investment programmes over the next five years.
Lorenzana visited this morning the facilities of Delta Vigo Aeroestructuras in Nigrán, a family business currently present in seven countries in sectors such as defence, aeronautics and automotive. “Delta Vigo is a company we must count on in this strategy; it is already established in Galicia but can attract more investment and more quality employment in the Community and be the seed to generate new industry,” she pointed out.
In this regard, she explained that the aim is to learn firsthand the real short, medium and long-term needs of companies to define public-private collaboration and adjust the support and investment instruments that the Xunta is planning to promote a security and defence industry in Galicia that also includes the aerospace sector.
The goal is to mobilise all Galicia’s industrial and technological potential in defence and dual-use application technologies and to generate significant demand for products, systems and services, following the priorities set by Europe.
183 million euros until 2030
To this end, it specified that €183 million will be allocated until 2030 with the aim of mobilising €900 million and attracting companies from other strategic sectors such as naval, automotive, metal or ICT towards these activity segments, thereby realising new industrial investments.
In fact, within the framework of this Strategic Initiative in Security, Defence and Aerospace, the Xunta will activate a Dual Technologies Investment Fund endowed with €40 million for application in both civil and military fields.
Galicia can and must be prepared to position itself at the forefront of the development of dual technologies and infrastructures, generating economic growth and quality employment in the process.
