Santiago de Compostela, 21 October 2025

The Minister of Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, announced today that innovation will continue to be a key element in the Xunta’s budget for the coming year, which will include a new edition of the IA360 programme, the first call for support in Galicia to introduce artificial intelligence into companies which has been a complete success.

Lorenzana spoke today at the inauguration of the I Grand Forum of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, where she highlighted that the main funding line of this support programme – for the creation of new products or services through AI – closed last April with a record number of applications, a total of 117, which led to the doubling of its initial budget from €5.5 million to €10.8 million.

In total, 82 business projects benefited, with an average aid of €131,000 and a mobilisation of more than €21.7 million in total investment. The ICT sector accounts for 43% of the proposals, followed by food, engineering, biotechnology, health, energy, and logistics. The other two lines of this aid package – for the implementation of commercial AI solutions and data management projects, and for training actions – still have the application deadline open until 31 October.

The minister emphasised that Galicia has an increasingly dynamic innovation and entrepreneurship system. In fact, she said, it consolidates as the sixth hub of innovation and entrepreneurship in Spain, only behind Madrid, Catalonia, Valencian Community, Basque Country, and Andalusia. It has 388 technological and innovative companies, 26% more than the previous year, of which 229 are startups, representing a 44% increase compared to 2024. These companies generate nearly 2,900 qualified jobs and exceed €290 million in annual turnover.

In this context, Lorenzana stressed that “business and administration are not two different teams, but one.” Under this premise, she highlighted the work of the Economic Office of Galicia, with nearly 30,000 consultations in a year and a half of existence, “to make things easier for companies.”

“The business projects that grow, are born, or settle in Galicia are another vote in favour of the Galician economy and a recognition of our political, social, and institutional stability,” she underscored, emphasising: “It is true that in Galicia there are still minority sectors that, faced with any industrial initiative, react against it. Even if they make noise in the present, they belong to the past and have little place in the future.”
