The Regional Minister of Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, held a meeting with the heads of the Galician biotechnology company Batea Oncology, to whom she offered the full support of the Xunta through the Galician Economic Office and the Igape’s venture capital management company, Xesgalicia, to make progress in the fight against cancer.
Batea Oncology is a biotech spin-off that researches and develops new technologies for the treatment of oncological diseases. Specifically, it designed a pioneering device called GlioHook for the treatment of glioblastoma, which is the most common brain tumour and for which there are few therapeutic options. The company has just started a fundraising programme to begin clinical trials, as its managers explained at the meeting.
In this context, Lorenzana made the services of the Galician Economic Office available to them in terms of advice, so that they could make a more personalised and comprehensive follow-up of the project and study the possible financing options for which it could be eligible. It should be noted that, since it was set up, this office has dealt with more than 10,300 queries, most of which are resolved immediately.
The Regional Minister also considered the key role that Xesgalicia, an entity dependent on the Igape, which has been actively participating in various financing programmes for entrepreneurship and recently created business initiatives such as Batea Oncology, can play in this case.
