The Regional Minister for Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, stressed today the need to banish industrial denialism in Galicia “because it can end up scaring away investment in our region”. “No matter how much security and stability the Galician Government offers, if every project that arrives is appealed and suspended, it can lead to entrepreneurs leaving for another territory where it is easier to invest and there is less conflict,” warned Lorenzana, while sending a message of optimism. “With all the prudence we must exercise at the present time, with great sensitivity to the difficulties and surprises that the international markets are giving us, Galicia is a good place to invest”.
Lorenzana, accompanied by the Director of the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape), Covadonga Toca, took part in the presentation of the 2025 Economic Situation Report for Galicia, where she assured that the Galician Government was right to bet on promoting an industrial policy based on de-bureaucratisation and making energy more affordable. “We have to be cautious but the latest export data consolidate us in fifth place and the growth in industrial employment in the latest EPAs is frankly good and well above the national average,” the Regional Minister highlighted.
At this point, she elaborated on the pillars on which the Xunta de Galicia’s industrial and economic policy is based: the elimination of bureaucracy through the launch of the Igape Economic Office, which has a business innovation area “because knowledge transfer is key”; an industrial acceleration plan that has as its basic feature the strategic industrial projects (PIEs), which currently number 15 between those already approved and those in processing. And finally, she referred to the strategy linked to the respectful exploitation of natural resources through the Law on the promotion of the social and economic benefits of projects that use Galicia’s natural resources, which seeks to reconcile their exploitation with the generation of wealth in the territory.
However, the Galician Government’s Economics Minister regretted “that on the one hand we are talking about decarbonisation, where Galicia is already ahead of the targets set in the PNIEC for this decade, and yet we are not putting enough investment into the electricity transmission network to guarantee the evacuation and supply of electricity”.
Finally, María Jesús Lorenzana praised the quality of the report, which she described as “clear, comprehensive and with a very strategic vision of the region’s reality”, while insisting that “Galicia has everything it needs to lead first-rate economic development”.
