Curtis (A Coruña), 26 September 2025

The President of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, accompanied by the Minister of Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, today claimed Galicia as a leading community in national protein production thanks to the new Curtis plant.

During his visit to the works of the first comprehensive plant for the production of vegetable proteins in Spain, promoted by the company In Proteins For All, the head of the Galician Executive thanked the commitment of a company “with potential, capacity, and future” for Galicia, emphasising that it is a strategic project “that must be supported,” both for the municipality and for the whole community. The total investment, close to 19 million euros, will allow, as Rueda highlighted, the creation of 55 direct jobs, mostly permanent.

The new facility will produce proteins from legumes such as broad beans, chickpeas, lentils, or peas using biotechnology and sustainable chemistry processes. In addition, the by-products will be transformed into high value-added ingredients for sectors such as aquaculture or pet nutrition, making the plant an example of circular economy.

The President highlighted that this initiative represents a qualitative leap for the Galician agri-food industry and positions Curtis as a national benchmark in protein production, a booming sector, in collaboration with the neighbouring Inleit plant.

The project was recognised by the Xunta as a Priority Business Initiative in September 2023, which allowed halving administrative deadlines. Rueda explained that the regional administration bets on innovation, quality, and agility in processing when it comes to investments that meet the requirements of job creation and “added value.”

In this regard, the head of the Galician Executive emphasised the importance of being able to transform Galician raw materials in our community to retain wealth and economic potential. Thus, he stated that “Galicia Calidade” is also these kinds of projects with a future “that retain the talent we have here” and that become “poles of attraction” for other companies.

He highlights the work of the Economic Office of Galicia, recently presented in Japan, which closely accompanied the promoters from the very beginning, and the new lines of innovation support launched by Igape (including IA360, Igape Innova and Ticket Innova), aimed at companies that bet on cutting-edge technologies and the creation of startups.

The Xunta supports this project with a total contribution exceeding 9.5 million euros, which adds to the involvement of Galician investors such as Hijos de Rivera and other international partners, an example of public-private collaboration that will allow the plant to be fully operational by mid-2026.
