The President of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, today reaffirmed the role of business leaders as generators of wealth and quality employment, stressing the Xunta’s commitment to supporting and advising those who wish to invest or start a business in the region.
During his speech at the closing of the Meeting of Secretaries and Managers of Business Organisations of the Confederation of Employers of Pontevedra, Rueda emphasised that Galicia is a land full of opportunities and highlighted the duty of the public administrations to “energise the economy” and foster an ecosystem that enables the implementation of strategic projects for the region.
In this regard, he recalled the Xunta’s commitment to cutting red tape, to “make everything easier”, and to simplifying administrative processes for business initiatives, as well as offering personalised advice through the Economic Office of Galicia.
“What truly matters to us is that business owners in Galicia know they have an administration committed to processing matters on time and being predictable,” said Rueda, while recalling that, on 1 January, the region “will once again have its budgets in place, continuing to grow and reaching historic highs while remaining fully realistic.”
He also highlighted that Galicia has been recognised as the European Entrepreneurial Region 2025 for the work carried out by the regional government in recent years to promote entrepreneurship. In fact, the Xunta will allocate 32 million euros from the 2025 budget to entrepreneurship in order to promote various initiatives and boost projects led by young people, women, and returning Galicians.
Likewise, from next year, all aid schemes aimed at the self-employed — totalling 40 million euros — will be unified under a single order to make applications easier and faster, and the “à la carte” training programme will be consolidated so that business owners can request the specific courses needed to improve their employees’ skills. “We will be supporting every effort made by the business community,” stated the President of the Xunta.
Essential infrastructure
On another note, Alfonso Rueda took the opportunity to continue calling for the infrastructure Galicia deserves, insisting that the region “must not fall behind in essential investments” such as the “unquestionable” high-speed rail link between Galicia and Portugal.
He urged the business community to remain “our allies and join us in this challenge that will connect the entire Galicia–Northern Portugal axis”, pointing out the major commercial opportunity it will also entail.
