The Regional Minister for Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, announced today that the Galicia Economic Office will collaborate with EspazoCoop, the organisation that brings together Galician cooperatives, to promote the development and speed up the establishment in the region of business initiatives of a cooperative nature.
Lorenzana today visited the facilities of the company Maier Ferrolplast in O Porriño, the first mixed cooperative society founded in Galicia and the largest industrial cooperative, where this collaboration agreement was formalised. Under its terms, EspazoCoop and the Galicia Economic Office will work hand in hand and in a coordinated manner so that they can complement their support and advisory services for entrepreneurs.
The Galicia Economic Office of Igape therefore undertakes to deal with enquiries and provide advice and support to entrepreneurs, cooperatives and other entities in the sector covered by the agreement. For its part, EspazoCoop will refer to the Igape office any project requiring attention that goes beyond the support or services it offers. Both parties will remain in constant contact in order to raise the profile of cooperativism as a form of self-employment and business entrepreneurship.
In her speech, Lorenzana praised the example of Maier Ferrolplast which, as she noted, within the automotive sector “is not only a production plant, it is a people-centred project”; a company where it is possible to combine local roots with a global and competitive vision, she said. “In a time and in a sector where there is so much talk of relocations, it is very positive to champion the opposite model: that of a company that not only produces, but builds; that generates industry, employment and wealth here,” she concluded.
