Santiago de Compostela, 29 September 2025
The Ministers of Employment, Trade and Emigration, José González, and Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, accompanied by the Director General of Trade and Consumption, Gabriel Alén, and the Director of the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape), Covadonga Toca, participated this morning in the business forum Opportunities for Cooperation and Investment between Galician and Chinese companies, organised by SW Spain with the collaboration of the Confederation of Employers of Galicia and the Chamber of Commerce of Santiago de Compostela.
José González stressed the importance of this meeting — which was also attended by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Spain, Yao Jing — as a space for public-private collaboration to foster new opportunities in the field of internationalisation and cooperation in strategic markets. A forum, he said, that works in both ways: supporting Galician companies in their establishment process in China and, at the same time, encouraging investment from the Asian country to Galicia.
The Employment, Trade and Emigration Minister emphasised that Galicia acts as a facilitating administration for its business fabric, committed to streamlining procedures, supporting companies in the challenges they face in the labour market — such as filling vacancies, flexibilising employment training, or attracting talent — as well as boosting their competitiveness and access to international markets, including the Chinese one. He also highlighted the role of the Chambers of Commerce, which he described as fundamental pieces in supporting and energising companies, both for their advisory work and for their contribution to the internationalisation of the productive fabric.
Galicia, a region of balance and financial solidity
For her part, the Minister of Economy and Industry highlighted Galicia as a strategic partner for China in Europe because of its Atlantic location, which connects directly with the major European ports and Latin America; for having an economy that combines a strong industry, innovative tradition and highly qualified human capital; and “for our predictability, something highly valued by international investors,” she said.
In this sense, María Jesús Lorenzana highlighted the balance and financial stability offered by the Galician Community thanks to a resilient business fabric consisting of more than 190 companies with a constant presence in the Chinese market; committed institutions like Igape; and the implementation of tools such as the Economic Office of Galicia to simplify procedures and centralise services both for Galician businesses and foreign investors by offering them a flexible and efficient environment. She also pointed out that the percentage of regular exporting companies grew to 43% of the total, demonstrating the trust relationship between Galicia and China.
