The director of Igape, Covadonga Toca, took part today in the inauguration of the Conexión Maker Faire Galicia event, held at the Cidade das TIC in A Coruña, where she hailed Galician talent as the driving force behind an innovative, sustainable economy open to the world. In this regard, she stressed that Galicia “is today an innovative territory with a vision for the future, where ideas are transformed into projects thanks to creativity, cooperation and an entrepreneurial spirit.”
The director of Igape praised the track record of Maker Faire Galicia, which this year marks its 11th edition, establishing itself as the largest maker fair in southern Europe, with more than 100,000 attendees, 1,550 creators from 15 countries and 600 projects presented. “The important thing is not just the numbers but what they represent: Galicia’s ability to position itself at the forefront of global innovation and connect our talent with the world,” she said.
During her speech, she referred to some of the key projects in this edition, demonstrating how artificial intelligence, energy transfer under extreme conditions, and sustainable agriculture with advanced control technologies are already part of the Galician ecosystem. These examples reflect Galicia’s capacity to generate innovation applied to real challenges, from environmental care to energy and food efficiency.
She also emphasised that Galicia has an increasingly vibrant innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, where universities, technology centres, clusters, startups and traditional companies collaborate more and more, generating synergies that multiply the impact of innovation. On this path, Igape supports with programmes that drive the technological modernisation of SMEs, bring research closer to the productive fabric and support the launch of new ideas.
Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of the specialised accelerator network, to which new initiatives focused on health and renewable energy will be added, as well as the startup aid programme, which finances initial expenses so that no project fails to take off. Together with the Economic Office of Galicia, which offers personalised advice to entrepreneurs and companies, they form a key infrastructure for turning talent and innovative ideas into a collective driver of development.
