Santiago de Compostela, 27 May 2025

The director of Igape, Covadonga Toca, took part today in the 1st Major Forum on Competitiveness and Reindustrialisation, where she presented the main initiatives promoted by the Xunta to boost the competitiveness of Galicia’s business fabric through a firm commitment to innovation, talent, internationalisation and increased financial capacity — “pillars on which to build a stronger, more resilient and globally connected Galicia.”

During her address, Toca Carús stated that “reindustrialising Galicia is an opportunity to create jobs, retain talent and help our SMEs grow without losing their essence.”

She pointed out that the Xunta is reinforcing its focus on innovation, capacity building and internationalisation as key pillars of business competitiveness in Galicia, through programmes promoting the use of artificial intelligence, supporting sustainable projects, and enabling SMEs to access specialised services. She also highlighted the investment in managerial talent development and training in strategic areas such as foreign trade and digital transformation.

In the international sphere, Galicia continues to consolidate its export leadership with public support focused on market identification, digitalisation and the coordination of trade missions to strengthen the international presence of Galician companies.

In addition, the Xunta is activating specific measures to tackle tariff barriers, such as soft loans of up to €1 million, technical advisory services in coordination with Igape’s Miami office, and new consultancy services under the Reacciona programme.

Economic Office and Master Plans

In this context, the director explained that the Economic Office of Galicia, created in 2024, has become a benchmark in business support, handling more than 21,000 enquiries, 200 strategic projects and 950 coordinated meetings in its first year. “The Economic Office does not centralise; it facilitates. It is a space that listens, guides, connects and resolves,” she summarised.

“Every programme — whether in innovation, training, internationalisation, financing or competitiveness — is designed with the specific needs of each strategic sector in mind,” she added, noting that this ensures all public resources act in a coordinated and coherent manner, “supporting companies at every stage of their transformation and contributing to the goals of growth, quality employment and sustainability.”
