Santiago de Compostela, 1 September 2025
The Xunta de Galicia is organising a working session to showcase the opportunities offered by calls launched by the SESAR Joint Undertaking to Galician businesses and knowledge centres. The event will also outline to the industry the main lines of work within the new Strategic Initiative in Security, Defence and Aerospace.
The session, which will take place on Friday, 5 September, at the Palacio de el Carmen in Santiago de Compostela under the title Strategic Cooperation for a Digital European Sky, forms part of the actions of the new Strategic Initiative in Security, Defence and Aerospace, promoted by the Galician Government to develop and strengthen Galicia’s presence in these sectors, fostering long-term business growth and industrial activity in the region and creating professional opportunities for young people.
The Director General for Industrial Strategy and Business Land, Margarita Ardao, highlighted the principal objectives of the new Strategic Initiative: encouraging the growth of companies within Galicia’s security, defence and aerospace ecosystem and expanding it through the incorporation of new enterprises from other strategic sectors; materialising new industrial investments; reinforcing Galicia’s territorial productive capacities, including access to capital, infrastructure and skilled workers; and leading new industrial policies at a national level, consolidating the Xunta’s profile as an entrepreneurial and exemplary government in driving public–private collaboration. She also invited all interested individuals and businesses wishing to learn more in detail about the opportunities available in the sector to attend Friday’s sessions.
Speakers at the event will include José Antonio Calvo Fresno, SESAR’s advisor for stakeholder relations and corporate affairs; Juan Francisco Reyes Sánchez, Spain’s representative at SRG Clean Aviation and SESAR; and Farrah Lisa Meghazi, Deputy Director General of Industrial Promotion and Business Land. Additionally, the event will feature a dialogue with companies, with the aim of fostering cooperation and generating opportunities among sector stakeholders.
SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking (SESAR 3 JU) is an institutional public–private partnership of the European Union, established in 2021, with the mission to accelerate, through research and innovation, the implementation of the Digital European Sky initiative, which aims to modernise air traffic management across Europe.
It regularly launches research and innovation project calls under Horizon Europe, targeting universities, technology centres, companies and organisations in the aeronautical sector, with the aim of funding solutions that drive the green and digital transition of European air transport.
