Covadonga Toca, Director of Igape, represented the Xunta de Galicia today at the Best Practices Group meeting of the ICEX Interterritorial Council for Internationalisation. This meeting preceded her participation in the round table discussion “Industrial Competitiveness: How to Finance the Future,” held as part of the Wake Up Spain economic forum in Madrid.
During both interventions, Toca outlined the key principles of the Economic Office of Galicia, new model of engagement with the business sector that places companies at the centre of public policies while simplifying and expediting processes for entrepreneurship, growth, and investment in Galicia.
The Economic Office of Galicia, operational since April 2024, provides tailored support plans and specialised advisory services for each project through a team of 100 expert advisors in areas such as industry, energy, innovation, financing, and sustainability.
Since its launch, the Director noted that the Office has handled over 18,700 enquiries and provided direct support to 865 business initiatives, 193 of which were classified as highly significant.
Toca also emphasised the Xunta’s measures to attract investments and activate strategic industrial projects, such as the declaration of Autonomous Interest Projects (PIA) or Strategic Industrial Projects (PIE). These initiatives allow administrative deadlines to be halved, direct allocation of industrial land, and grant subsidies without competitive procedures.
At Wake Up Spain, Toca highlighted institutional coordination and proactive planning as key elements to achieving a more competitive, sustainable, and attractive Galicia for national and international investment. “In Galicia, we are clear that the future of industry depends on public-private collaboration, anticipating the needs of the productive sector, and efficient and agile procedures. The Economic Office is a reflection of this new vision,” she stressed.
