Vigo, 15 November 2024
The Regional Minister for Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, met with representatives of the Confederation of Textile Industries of Galicia (Cointega) to evaluate modernisation and innovation strategies in the textile sector in the region and address its future challenges.
The minister and Cointega representatives agreed on the importance of continuing to support this strategic industry for Galicia, which in 2023 was the region’s main export sector, accounting for 23.1% of Galician exports.
In this context, the aim is to boost competitiveness and new business opportunities, as well as to seek new ways to revitalise Galician fashion and showcase the quality of its products and the good work of the companies and workers linked to this industry.
The meeting also addressed the sector’s needs to face future challenges in the areas of management training, talent retention, modernisation, digitalisation and sustainability.
The head of Economy and Industry also highlighted the Xunta’s commitment to entrepreneurs and Galician SMEs and emphasised the role of the Galician Economic Office, which has handled more than 10,000 enquiries since its launch in April this year. This office acts as a centralised point of contact for companies, self-employed individuals and entrepreneurs, offering a personalised and specialised information, advice and support system.
