The Director of Igape, Covadonga Toca, today highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to further modernise and strengthen the competitiveness of an established sector such as wood and design, by incorporating new tools capable of improving processes, increasing productivity and generating greater value.
Toca Carús took part in Santiago in the opening of the Executive Training Programme in Artificial Intelligence for companies in the wood and design sector. The initiative is promoted by the Galician Wood and Design Cluster, with support from Igape, in order to bring these technologies closer to business realities.
During her address, she emphasised that innovation is not exclusive to emerging sectors or technology companies, but also provides a means of continuing to transform established industries. In this regard, she noted that wood and design make up a sector with expertise, experience and a developed value chain, and one that is consistently committed to evolving and adopting technology.
The Director of Igape also highlighted the programme’s practical nature. It is designed to enable participants to analyse their own businesses and identify where AI can genuinely add value, from saving time and improving decision-making to solving specific problems.
In this context, Toca Carús also underlined the importance of having suitably skilled people, high-quality data, security and human oversight. She also highlighted the role of clusters as allies, given their proximity to companies and their understanding of each sector’s needs. “Technology is important, but the decisions remain ours,” she stressed.
Finally, she reaffirmed the Xunta’s commitment to supporting companies in turning these opportunities into concrete projects, recalling that Igape has the IA360 scheme to support both the development of proprietary technology and the adoption of artificial-intelligence solutions. “It is not about incorporating AI simply because everything now has to bear those initials, but about using it where it enables us to work better, generate more value and compete more effectively,” she concluded.
