The Regional Minister for Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, recalled today that the Xunta’s loan scheme to finance the purchase of grapes by Galician wineries during this year’s campaign will remain open until 16 December. The scheme has a budget of €2 million.
During a visit to Santiago Roma Wineries, Lorenzana explained that, with the harvest season already under way, the purpose of this support is to provide wineries with liquidity and access to financing on more favourable terms, as the Xunta subsidises the interest and fees charged on loan transactions formalised to purchase grapes.
The 2026 support scheme has been open for applications since 5 August. Its aim is to help Galician wineries meet one of the year’s periods of greatest financial pressure, by enabling them to purchase the grape harvest and pay winegrowers within the established deadlines.

The five Protected Designations of Origin (Rías Baixas, Ribeiro, Ribeira Sacra, Valdeorras and Monterrei) and the five Protected Geographical Indications comprise 13,400 winegrowers and 479 wineries, with the wine marketed generating an economic value of more than €200 million. The 2025 harvest concluded with almost 76 million kilograms of grapes collected, making it the third most abundant harvest on record, after those of 2011 and 2023.
In this context, she concluded that the aim of this financing scheme is to support the competitiveness of a sector that is strategic for both the economy and rural areas, and which is among those that best represents the values of the Galicia Calidade brand.
