The Xunta de Galicia today cited Smart Vitamins as an example of the potential of the Galician startup ecosystem during a visit by the director of the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape), Covadonga Toca, to the company’s premises. The company exemplifies the Ministry of Economy and Industry’s model of support for innovative entrepreneurship, accompanying startups from their earliest development phases through to consolidation and growth.
During the tour, the director learned first-hand about the company’s evolution and its research and development projects, based on proprietary nanoencapsulation technology that improves the administration and bioavailability of active compounds for the development of new products for the pharmaceutical, healthcare, nutraceutical and cosmetics sectors.
Throughout its history, Smart Vitamins has received support from Igape through various instruments adapted to different stages of its business development, including Startup Aid, Igape Innova and, more recently, Ticket Innova, which have enabled it to drive new R&D projects, develop innovative solutions and strengthen its competitive capacity.
As Covadonga Toca highlighted, cases such as Smart Vitamins demonstrate the capacity of the Galician entrepreneurial ecosystem to transform knowledge and innovation into high-value-added business projects capable of growing, attracting talent and competing in national and international markets.
In this context, the director recalled that support for innovative entrepreneurship constitutes one of the strategic axes of the Xunta’s economic policy, complemented by initiatives such as the Business Factories Network, a pioneering model of specialised acceleration that drives the creation and consolidation of innovative companies in strategic sectors for Galicia.
Through this set of instruments, the Xunta accompanies startups at different stages of their development, facilitating access to financing, innovation, business acceleration and collaboration with the Galician scientific, technological and industrial ecosystem. The aim is to help more innovative projects become competitive companies, with the capacity to grow, develop their own technology, attract investment and generate skilled employment in Galicia.
