The Regional Minister for Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, today reviewed trade and business relations between Galicia and Mexico at a meeting in Santiago with the new Honorary Consul, Alfonso Pereira, and the heads of the Igape Office in Mexico. The meeting also addressed potential new avenues for economic cooperation and investment opportunities for both economies.
Mexico is a highly attractive market for Galicia. Galician exports to the country reached €324 million last year, mainly comprising products from the automotive, textile, agri-food and metalworking sectors. The number of companies exporting their products to Mexico totalled 409 in 2025.
Lorenzana outlined to the Honorary Consul the principal objectives of the Xunta’s economic and industrial policy, which seeks to consolidate the internationalisation of the Galician economy by promoting both exports and inward investment in the region.
In this context, she presented the work carried out by the Galician Economic Office as a point of contact for identifying projects of interest to Galician industry and providing the advice and administrative support required for their establishment.
Finally, the Regional Minister for Economy and Industry reaffirmed the Galician Government’s commitment to supporting the business community in expanding into international markets and increasing its export capacity, given that the region’s exports approached €31 billion last year.
