The Minister of Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, announced today that next Tuesday, 28 July, the aid from the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape) to finance Galician wineries’ purchase of grapes, with a budget of 2 million euros, will be published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG). Applications may be submitted from 5 August.
Lorenzana made this announcement during a visit to Adegas Valmiñor, in O Rosal, where she explained that this is a line of support that the Xunta has been calling since 2023 to help wineries cope with one of the most financially demanding times of the year, as it makes it easier for them to buy the grape harvest and make payments to winegrowers within the established deadlines.
What is sought, she said, is to give them liquidity and access to financing on more favourable terms, as the Xunta subsidises the interest and fees on the loan transactions arranged for the purchase of grapes.
This is a call under a non-competitive regime that will be open to loans arranged between 1 September and 30 December 2026.
In the three editions called so far (2023–2025), 119 wineries have benefited from this support, with more than 41.7 million euros in mobilised financing and 2.1 million euros in aid granted.
The five Designations of Origin and the four Protected Geographical Indications comprise 13,400 winegrowers and 479 wineries, with an economic value of wine marketed above 200 million euros. In this context, the aim of this line of financing is to contribute to the competitiveness of a sector that is strategic for the Galician economy and for rural Galicia, aware, she said, of the impact that adverse weather phenomena and market fluctuations are having on production.
Regarding Adegas Valmiñor, she acknowledged that it is, above all, a company that has long been committed to viticulture based on research and technological improvement. A winery, moreover, that has received multiple awards in national and international wine competitions, which bears witness to the quality it achieves in its production, she concluded.
