The Regional Minister for Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, today held a meeting with Airbus executives in Spain, where she expressed the Xunta’s interest in the company continuing to collaborate with the regional administration on developing the Security, Defence and Aerospace Strategy.
Airbus is a world leader in the construction of civil and military aircraft and has been one of the Xunta’s strategic and industrial partners since the launch of the Rozas business park (Lugo), with a consolidated network of Galician companies and centres working as technology suppliers to the company.
The meeting, which takes place as part of the series of contacts that the Department of Economy and Industry has been holding with companies linked to the security, defence and aerospace sector, highlighted the Galician Government’s interest in continuing this collaboration within the framework of the strategy designed to boost this industry in Galicia.
The objective focuses on opening up Airbus’s value chains to other Galician contractors and supporting its suppliers to expand their production capabilities over the next five years, thereby fostering new joint projects.
In this regard, it should be noted that, under the Security, Defence and Aerospace Strategy, in 2026 the Xunta will launch a new tender worth €83 million to fund new joint R&D programmes between leading companies and Galician suppliers. In addition, at the beginning of next year, two calls for grants totalling €8 million will also be published to support the positioning of Galician companies as suppliers of defence and security technology, and to foster the development and industrialisation of products and systems based on dual-use technologies.
