The President of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, highlighted today Galicia’s “technical, logistical and industrial capacity”, which he considered one of the factors that contributed to the automotive multinational SAIC choosing Galicia as the location for its production plant in the European Union. A decision that he thanked for and which he described as “a first step towards establishing a lasting relationship” between the company and our autonomous community.
He made this point this morning during his participation in the reception event for a vehicle carrier ship from the multinational company, which arrived at the Port of Ferrol to carry out logistical checks. This test, according to Rueda, demonstrates that SAIC’s commitment to Galicia is tangible. “Today we are witnessing the first visible image of a long-term industrial project destined to transform Galicia’s future,” he said.
In this regard, he thanked the company’s representatives for having chosen Galicia over other territories. Thus, he recalled that “Galicia offers stability, industrial capacity, infrastructures, logistics and talent, as well as the guarantee that things are done properly here, the commitment and reliability that distinguish Galicia Calidade”, he stated.
In his speech, he also referred to the importance that the arrival of this company will have for Ferrol and As Pontes, and for their areas. However, he specified that the impact will be for all of Galicia, as it will allow the strengthening of the entire value chains, open up new opportunities and “consolidate the community as one of the most important automotive hubs in all of Europe”. Specifically, this project will involve an initial investment of around 200 million euros and the creation of around 2,300 jobs in a first phase.
“Here they will find committed institutions, prepared companies, top-level universities and technology centres and highly qualified professionals,” the President of the Xunta said, while stating that they will also receive the welcome of a “civil society that knows how to appreciate those who arrive with a willingness to invest, create jobs and build a future”.
Galicia’s commitment to attracting initiatives such as this is in line with the objective set by the Xunta of continuing to grow, diversifying capabilities and incorporating new technologies, hand in hand with world-leading companies. Thus, Rueda also defended all the work done so far and recognised the necessary involvement of the rest of the administrations to continue working jointly for the general interest.
