Narón (A Coruña), 22 July 2026

The President of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, visited today the facilities of the Cándido Hermida Group in the Río do Pozo industrial estate in Narón, where he highlighted the track record of more than four decades of this company and its contribution to the modernisation and international prestige of the timber industry and the contract sector in Galicia. “Being at present a supplier to very demanding companies and projects all over the world says a great deal about Galicia Calidade,” he said.

Accompanied by the Minister of Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, Rueda thanked the company’s founder for his entrepreneurial vision, his non-conformity and his entrepreneurial vocation, a company that today employs more than 600 people and is present in more than 80 countries.

Likewise, the head of the regional government underlined the company’s commitment to training new generations, as one of the pioneering firms in the area in collaborating with Dual Vocational Training, helping to convey the message that trades have a great future and professional prospects. “We need companies of this size and prestige to be our allies,” he stressed.

Alfonso Rueda guaranteed that the Galician Government will continue to be a direct ally of companies that take risks, create wealth and generate jobs, so he emphasised the need for public administrations to facilitate economic activity, remove bureaucratic obstacles and accompany companies in their growth. In particular, he highlighted the importance of supporting family businesses like this one, which represent 94% of the Galician productive base and constitute the backbone of the region’s economy.

Decided support for the timber and wood sector

The head of the Xunta reaffirmed the regional government’s commitment to the timber value chain and sustainability. In this regard, he recalled the recent approval of the Master Plan for the Timber and Wood Industry 2026–2028, endowed with 114 million euros and 88 measures aimed at consolidating Galicia as a national and international benchmark in this field.

Likewise, he referred to the launch of the new call for aid under the XERA-Madeira programme, with a budget of 5 million euros to promote the use of this material in new works, refurbishments and renovations of warehouses, premises and homes, a pioneering initiative in Spain. “People need to see that wood, with current treatments and techniques and with companies like this, has enormous possibilities with nothing to envy any other construction technique or any other material,” Rueda said. In addition, he reiterated the regional administration’s commitment to “lead by example” and incorporate wood into the structure of up to 20% of its public buildings.
