- The territorial delegate, Javier Arias, took part in the closing of a Conecta Lugo forum on industrialisation and sustainability, in which representatives from business, science and administration shared their experiences

The territorial delegate of Lugo, Javier Arias, today highlighted the Lugo industrial fabric’s commitment “to advancing towards a modern and sustainable model”, a challenge in which “they will continue to have the Xunta’s collaboration through a wide range of grants and programmes aimed at supporting modernisation, digitalisation, internationalisation, innovation and the green transition”.
Arias took part in the closing of the Conecta Lugo forum on sustainable industrialisation, promoted by the Xunta through the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape) and the Lugo Business Confederation (CEL). The event served to exchange information and experiences between representatives from science, industry and administration. One of the speakers was the science communicator Deborah García Bello.
The delegate emphasised that the Lugo industrial model “combines very solid traditional sectors with new technology-based initiatives, energy efficiency and innovation”. He highlighted future challenges as “continuing to modernise our industry, attracting new investments, consolidating companies that already generate employment and wealth, and maintaining collaboration among all the agents in the territory”, objectives in which “businesses will find the Xunta’s support”.
Strengthening Support
To this end, he pointed out that support services from the Galician Economic Office will be strengthened and the network of Entrepreneurship Hubs will be enhanced, with the aim of helping businesses and entrepreneurs throughout the territory.
The Conecta Lugo programme will also continue, with new events across the province “to offer SMEs support, guidance and opportunities, both in urban and rural areas”, said Arias. He also praised the Xunta’s boost to Campus Terra and highlighted the importance of continuing to collaborate on initiatives that facilitate knowledge transfer from the university for the benefit of business innovation.
In the same vein, he indicated that the Galician Government will continue to promote the development of industrial land, with investments such as those being made in the Gándaras industrial estate, to which €60 million has been allocated. This industrial area is home to more than 130 settled companies, and the contract for drafting the urbanisation project for phases VI and VII-B, totalling 352,153 square metres, has already been formalised. In addition, works on phases IV, V and VII-A, covering 243,487 m², are underway.
Finally, Arias regretted that the Xunta’s measures to promote industry and employment in the province “contrast with the action of the central Government, which with decisions such as leaving Lugo out of the plans to improve the electricity grid not only hampers a specific project, but also stalls any industrial initiative in our territory”, he concluded.
