The Director of Igape, Covadonga Toca, visited today the facilities of Cogaltra (Galician Company for Heat Treatments) in Narón, where she highlighted the role of collaborative infrastructures promoted by the Xunta in strengthening the competitiveness of Galicia’s productive fabric, fostering business innovation and completing strategic value chains for Galician industry.
During the visit, Toca Carús stressed that Cogaltra represents “a clear example of how public-private collaboration enables Galicia to incorporate advanced industrial capabilities that previously did not exist in our territory”, helping to reduce external dependencies, improve business competitiveness and generate new opportunities for industrial development.
The facility, promoted within the framework of the Advanced Manufacturing Centres programme led by the Regional Ministry of Economy and Industry, began its industrial activity in 2023 after an investment of more than 2.6 million euros to create Galicia’s first installation specialising in advanced heat treatment of steels using vacuum technology.
Thanks to this capability, the director explained, sectors such as shipbuilding, automotive, renewable energy, steelmaking and machinery manufacturing can carry out these processes in Galicia, avoiding the need to relocate to other autonomous communities or abroad. In this regard, she noted that the facility makes it possible to reduce logistics costs, shorten production times, improve control over production processes and facilitate the development of high value-added industrial projects.
Open infrastructures to drive innovation
During the visit, Covadonga Toca recalled that Cogaltra is part of the network of Advanced Manufacturing Centres, Digital Centres and Collaborative Infrastructures promoted by the Xunta to provide Galician companies with access to advanced technological services without having to individually bear the high costs associated with this type of equipment.
Within the framework of these calls, the regional administration has already supported 14 strategic projects across Galicia, mobilising more than 40 million euros in investment and benefiting from over 28 million euros in public aid.
In this context, the Director of Igape noted that the Xunta has kept open until 22 June the new call for the Collaborative Industrial Support Infrastructures programme, endowed with 10 million euros. The initiative will make it possible to finance up to 80% of the investment in projects aimed at creating shared spaces and services that enhance the competitiveness and modernisation of Galicia’s business fabric.
Toca Carús concluded by stating that initiatives such as that developed by Cogaltra exemplify the Xunta’s commitment to a more innovative, competitive industry that is better prepared to face the challenges of technological transformation, while at the same time strengthening Galicia’s position as a leading industrial territory.
