The Xunta is speeding up the procedures to expand the Corgo business park. The territorial delegate for Lugo, Alfonso Villares, and the manager of the public body Xestur, Diego Toja, informed about the planned steps to add a further 203,089 square metres of surface area, of which 118,244 will be business land.
According to the regional officials, work is currently under way on the processing of the Project of Autonomous Interest (PIA), which will make the expansion a reality. The document was sent in early July to the General Directorate of Urban Planning for the issue of the report prior to its approval, which is expected to be agreed by the Xunta Council in September.
Once the future action is carried out, the Corgo business park will reach a total area of 347,248 m², of which more than 210,000 m² will be allocated to the establishment of new economic and industrial activities.
The existing park, promoted by the Xunta de Galicia, has a gross area of 144,159 m² and all of its plots have already been marketed, which shows the high demand for this business park and the need to increase its capacity.
Planned schedule
Once final approval of the PIA has been obtained, the corresponding expropriation project will be processed, with the first half of 2027 as the planned deadline for the signing of the preliminary occupation records. In parallel, processing of the urbanisation project continues; it already has the corresponding favourable environmental report, and its final approval is expected for that same period.
The urbanisation works will then be put out to tender, beginning the execution of a key project to expand the municipality’s industrial capacity and meet the existing demand for business land.
The intervention will involve an investment of more than 11 million euros. Villares stressed that this action reaffirms the Xunta de Galicia’s commitment to creating high-quality business land, attracting new industrial projects and generating employment and economic activity in the province of Lugo.
In that regard, he highlighted other ongoing actions such as the expansion of the Gándaras business parks (Lugo) and Xove, as well as the development of the Meira industrial estate. Taken together, the regional administration is promoting around 1.5 million square metres of business land in different phases of processing and urbanisation, strengthening the province’s competitiveness and creating new opportunities for business investment and job creation.
