The director of Igape, Covadonga Toca, participated today in the closing session of Apetamcor’s General Assembly, where she emphasized the fundamental role that transport and logistics play in Galicia’s economic development and in the competitiveness of Galician companies. During her speech, she also highlighted the association’s trajectory, which has spent more than 30 years representing and defending the interests of self-employed professionals and small and medium-sized road transport companies.

During the event, she underlined that despite the current international context marked by geopolitical uncertainty, fuel price volatility, and rising operating costs, Galicia has a strong, professionalized transport sector with the capacity to adapt to new challenges. In this regard, Toca Carús noted that transport, logistics, warehousing, and distribution already account for more than 4% of Galicia’s GDP and constitute a strategic activity for the economy as a whole.

The director of Igape also highlighted the opportunities associated with the sector’s transformation, particularly in areas such as fleet digitalization, energy efficiency, vehicle renewal, traceability, and intermodality. In addition, she recalled that Galicia achieved a historic export record in 2024, exceeding €31 billion in exports, and maintained very similar figures in 2025, consolidating its position as Spain’s fifth-largest exporting region.

Finally, Covadonga Toca reaffirmed the commitment of the Regional Government of Galicia to the transport and logistics sector at a key moment for addressing challenges and taking advantage of the opportunities arising from its transformation. In this regard, she highlighted the ongoing dialogue with sector representatives and encouraged companies to take advantage of the available support instruments and resources to strengthen their competitiveness.
