The Secretary of State for Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, highlighted today that a total of 52 companies have benefited from the first call for grants from the Government to obtain certifications as suppliers for the security and defence sector, which has a budget of €1.5 million.
During a visit to the facilities of Alén Space, Lorenzana explained that these are companies from areas as diverse as the naval, metal-mechanical, aerospace, technological, transport, industrial maintenance, automotive, electricity and electronics, consultancy, construction, engineering or additive manufacturing sectors. This, she added, demonstrates the interest of Galician industry in diversifying towards this market.
Most of the applications were for the implementation of quality management systems (46); followed by registration to obtain the certificate from the Registry of Companies of the Directorate-General for Armament and Materials (24); for obtaining security authorisations (17); for the homologation of systems or products (15); and to participate in national or European calls (10).
The Secretary of State explained that this line of support is one of the measures that the Galician Government is developing within the Strategic Initiative for Security, Defence and Aerospace (IESDA), where, on the other hand, association agreements also play a significant role, which the Government Council approved yesterday.
In this regard, she recalled that the Galician Government will allocate €40 million to attract to Galicia large-scale industrial projects in security, defence and aerospace, and that the tender will be carried out through the Pre-commercial Public Procurement (PCP) model, a pioneering measure in Spain.
Through this action, the Government seeks to boost new industrial capabilities and attract large-scale innovation and technological development projects that include manufacturing in Galicia to generate added value, productive investment and qualified employment.
The objective, said Lorenzana during the visit, is to increase industrial capacities in these sectors by designing new solutions that are not yet on the market and giving priority to those manufactured in Galicia. The forecast is to be able to form between two and 15 business consortia and approve the award in the first half of 2027.
On Alén Space, Lorenzana stated that “it is part of that group of Galician companies that are standing out so much internationally within the aerospace sector and that are giving us such good news”. “The aerospace sector in Galicia is growing and continuing thanks to the talent of this entire ecosystem of technological companies that has here, in Nigrán, a very important base”, she concluded.
